Ringing AI bells!

October 31st almost culminates in planning for the year end tasks. This year more than ever... like never before... in the history of humanity... like not your father, his father or even the most imaginative souls on earth have ever experienced more AI!

What has changed in the last 2 years?

  1. Our expectations from electronics
  2. Our approach to anything - is it online!
  3. Our questions - is it a robot? is it automatic?
  4. Our suspicion - am I tracked? do I have privacy?
  5. and less significant... does it drive by itself?
  6. more insignificant... what will Elon Musk do with Twitter?

While clearly all of them are driven by one common element!

Artificial Intelligence

1984 - Almost 4 decades back when we saw "the" Terminator, we wondered, pondered and forgot about "thinking" part of a machine! And here, now we expect our machines to practically do the "thinking", while we want to do the "rest" - which is basically nothing!

Anything electronic, the expectation is:

  • Smart - Its smart
  • UI/ UX - Its visual
  • Remote - Its connected, not sure why - but I want to control my refrigerator from phone
  • Monitor - It must do the job; but it must tell me what its doing!
Then comes the "why", am I making more greener lawns by having a smart irrigation? No! you are not!
BUT you can! Our suspicions and our questions about AI is all but unnatural. Clearly at every stage of evolution there is an element of adoption time. But in case of AI, AI will help you to adopt.

It took us nearly a century to wrap our head around "Tele" to "Cell", while every year Androids and iOS are releasing newer versions, our clinical trials averaging 7 years is still a norm.

Yes, cellphones are part of our life we want them to be smarter! lets live with it. But everything is around cell phones. We got lazy to read news papers so we want Twitters to control and feed us! start from the tweeting souls!

But is that where its all heading? What about our exposure to AI really helping us?
  • Manage health - not AI for doctors to treat/ diagnose, but AI for our well-being? (Please not an App on iPhone...)
  • Mental well-being - A simple AI which will steer us clear from being addicted to phones
  • Education - to ensure everything, that any human ever learnt does not die with him/her! (Good things of course!)
  • Human development - Please not help us live on Mars! How can a parallel intelligence help us in ensuring we make the right decisions for our future generations!
The list is endless, but we are at the mercy of capitalists to drive AI, so all we can expect is to get more addictive devices that can only help lead us to a lazier life while spending a seemingly small amount of money and a whole lot precious time!
